I never heard of the author Robert McCaw nor his series of books featuring Koa Kane set on the island of Hilo in Hawaii. This is the 5th book of that series and I now regret that I have not read the first four. All I can say is wow! What a book. This is a police procedural that grabs you from the first page and does not let go until the very end. While the action is fast-paced it is not a continual action, and by that I mean action does not take place within a two or three day period of time. Rather this is a book that examines one individual search for revenge and retribution against a vast array of individuals. It begins with a sharp shooter trying to kill an assistant detective, and from there, there are plots and attempts on the lives of a judge, attorneys, Koa himself, his girlfriend and others. Nothing makes too much sense as there seems to be no single link that ties everything together.
That is the beauty of this book, we are there with Koa as he slowly but surely begins to unravel the mysteries behind all the violence.
