The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa

I had a hard time finishing this book. Ogawa is a great writer, but this book just got more and more implausible as it went on. We have an island, seemingly off the coast of an Asian nation. It is controlled by the Memory Police who can force the residents to have items disappear and can pick up residents for being associated with certain matters. Nobody protests, and it gets a bit over the top bizarre. Nothing seems to happen to the Memory Police, as if they are not subject to disappearance. Also, who is in charge, who determines what is going to disappear. And when body parts start disappearing it is time to say Adios!
